Today we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country and the ideals that it was founded upon. We also remember those who served their country in the past and those currently serving. To them, a heart-felt thanks for your service goes out to you from a fellow veteran.

For those of you who have never served in the military, you can still act in some capacity in service to your country by simply thanking a veteran. Just let them know that you appreciate them. Even if you don't agree with the war. Remember, these people have to follow orders, like it or not. I didn't particularly agree with Clinton when I served under his administration, but I did what I was told nonetheless. Because I believe in my country, no matter who is at the helm.

As an aside, I was checking the website of my old ship, pictured above. The CO is now Capt. John Uhl (pronounced like you'll). He was Ops (Operations Officer) when I was onboard, it's nice to see he's returned to take the conn.

Fair winds and following seas to you, Capt. Figured I'd beat the rush on the 4th. I gotta say, first of all, to those of you who have voted and to those who will...Thank you. Seriously. Actually I should correct that. It should read legally voted. One American, one vote. To you assholes out there who vote 3 or 4 times, or to those who should not vote because you're not an American citizen. Fuck. You. I hope every last one of you motherfuckers die in a most horrible manner, suffering for hours before you finally expire.

But to my fellow Americans to whom voting is a most sacred right, Thank You. I don't care if you're Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, etc. I may think some of you are misguided for voting straight ticket, mainly because that may not be what's best for the whole of the country. As the Democrats skew farther and farther into the left (the red zone, if you will), I believe they are definitely not the ones who should have the conn. Republicans seem to have more (but not all) of the best interests of the country at heart, however, even some of McCain's ideas didn't sit well with me due to the fact that they seemed rather socialist as well. For those of you wondering, I'm not registered with any political party.

One thing happened, though, that didn't sit well with me. One gentleman, after exercising his right, came walking out as I was standing in line. He passed a small TV that was playing a recorded message in Vietnamese, explaining the voting process (I guess). He said, "It should all be in English. It's in the Bill of Rights." The lady in front of me gave me a look as if to say, "WTF?" I just just kind of smiled and shook my head.

I'm going to go about this backwards. Let's look at the second part of that sentence. It is NOT in the Bill of Rights, bubba. The first ten amendments are commonly referred to as the Bill of Rights. Let's do a quick review:

Amendment I. - Freedom of religion, freedom of speech and the press, freedom to peaceably assemble, freedom to petition the government.
Amendment II. - Right to keep and bear arms.
Amendment III. - No quartering of soldiers, in times of peace or war, without consent of the homeowner.
Amendment IV. - Freedom from unreasonable search and seizure.
Amendment V. - Freedom from self-incrimination and double jeopardy. Right to due process. Eminent domain.
Amendment VI. - Trial by jury and rights of the accused.
Amendment VII. - Civil trial by jury.
Amendment VIII. - No excessive bail/fines; no cruel and unusual punishments.
Amendment IX. - Protection of rights not enumerated in the Bill of Rights.
Amendment X. - Powers of states and people.

Maybe I can't read all that good, cuz I was raised and schooled in Smalltown, IL, but I didn't see anything in there at all about voting being strictly in English. Which brings me back to the first part.

I think there should be. Yup, I said it. English should be made the official language of the United States. Especially voting. Think about it. If you've made it this far and are a naturalized citizen, having taken an oath in English to "support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic", then your proficiency in the language should be good enough that you can vote in English. Same thing with the driver's tests. Jeezus Criminy, our fucking road signs aren't in any other language...hello?

Before some assclown calls me a racist, let me say that we are a multicultural society. The Great Melting Pot. And that should be celebrated. And I'm not saying that you should abandon your native language. Because then I would be a hypocrite. My wife and I speak Spanish at home most of the time. However, she doesn't expect to be pandered to just because English is not her first language. Conversely, I don't expect people to pander to me when I'm in Colombia, simply because my first language isn't Spanish. I'd be pretty much assed out if I did. And to those assholes who only print signs in English and Spanish, let me ask you this: What about those who speak Chinese, Farsi, Afrikaans, Portuguese, French, Swedish? Should they suffer because you're insensitive pricks, or are you going to print signs with these languages also and stop discriminating against these people and those who speak other languages? I think you'll find it very costly to do so, so think about the amount of taxpayer dollars spent that could be saved had our government not had to print the same document in 100 different languages.

I may have been wrong...but I'm probably right

In an earlier post, I mentioned that the first thing that Obama and his ilk would do after <s>stealing</s> <s>committing egregious voter fraud</s> <s>being selected</s> being elected as POTUS would be to <s>attempt to</s> remove our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. I may be right, since it seems he's already trying to stifle our First Amendment rights as he gears up to take over <s>the world</s></s></s> the Presidency.

In a Gestapo-esque show of abuse of power and authoritah and true to his socialist ideologies, somebody sent out their Thought Police after a fellow Texan. After receiving a call from an Obama campaign worker (on her cell phone while she's coming back from taking her child to the ER), she tells the Obamabot exactly what she thinks of That One. The following day, two Secret Service agents showed up on her doorstep and proceeded to question her:

"I thought initially they were there because I called the man a socialist, because that's what I said. And I thought, wow, I'm calling the Sheriff's Office and they're going to leave my porch, like, immediately. Because I can call somebody a socialist if I want to."

Yes, you can. See the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights for clarification if you need. You can also look at Obama's plans for this country and tell that he is indeed, a socialist. And his voting record doesn't lie, either.

"The woman (agent) says, 'Oh really, why would she say that? (That this lady's comment was about Obama dying.) Why would she make that up? What would she have to gain?' And I said well, maybe she wasn't happy with my opinion of her candidate and the woman tells me, 'That's right, you were rude.'"

Since when did being rude become a crime in this country? Did I hurt your feelings? Then I'll apologize. I'm sorry that you're a thin-skinned pussy who can't take criticism, and have to resort to making false accusations against somebody who holds a different opinion than you.

"And at this point, the gentleman, y'know who is I think kind of playing the good cop, gets out his pad and he says 'Well just, y'know, just tell us a little bit about what you think about Barack Obama.' I said, oh no, I don't think so. You are not going to question me about my thoughts."

Honey, you've been marked. You've won an all-expenses paid vacation to Chateau Obama, the newest, state-of-the-art re-education camp in the country. You'll be leaving to go on that vacation just as soon as he's sworn in. Don't worry about packing any bags, in keeping with socialist traditions, everything will be provided for you. You'll receive scrubs, slippers and a nice little canvas "I Love Me" jacket that fastens up the back. Don't get uppity, though, or Ivan the Orderly will have to administer Thorazine and electro-shock therapy to you on a regular basis.

"Then I noticed that they had like a file on me."

With her name "prominently displayed on it". Amazing. In less than 24 hours, they have a complete profile of this gal, probably complete with every time she may have jaywalked in her life, yet the government can't seem to find 20 million illegals living in this country. Or they just don't want to fuck up Obama's voter base, since they know amnesty's a-comin'. It's fucking amazing as well that you don't need to show proof of citizenship in Illinois to register to vote when you go down to the DMV to get your license/ID card. When we first moved back to IL in '02, my wife couldn't speak but very few words in English. The lady behind the counter asked if she wanted to register to vote. Luckily, I was standing there when my wife asked me, "Should I?" Umm...no, you're not a citizen. You can't. Seriously, why do these people not check something as simple as immigration status to get a fucking license or ID card? Or how 'bout most important registering to fucking vote.

"At this point, I said well, wait a minute. What about the tape? Y'know, it all happened so fast. I said, haven't you listened to the tape of the call? I mean, listen to it. You'll know that I didn't say what this woman is claiming. 'Well, there is no tape.'"

No tape? Hmmm...well, looks like you just bought your own ticket aboard the "Get-the-fuck-off-my-property Express". Else you'll be taking the bullet train to Dirtnap Junction. And don't come back without a warrant.

"And they also told me, at one point when I was being 'uncooperative', the good cop, agent tried to say, 'Look, y'know, we're trying to help you out. Y'know we came to you first, right? We didn't go to all your neighbors and your family and ask embarrassing questions about you yet."

You're lucky. Because with abso-fucking-lutely zip-point-shit worth of evidence, you're opening yourself up for a lawsuit. Though I think the icing on the cake was this quote:

"With nothing but the partisan word of an Obama volunteer, you are on my porch and you are questioning me about my thoughts? And the female actually had the gall to say, 'You have no evidence that she supports Obama.'"

I guess you don't need a real high IQ to be a Secret Service agent, huh? She works for the Obama volunteers of Texarkana, fer chrissakes. Must be Affirmative Action at work. It's good to know y'all hire the retards. Keeps 'em off the street...and away from my place, heh heh.

And another thing: This chick(Jessica Hughes) is chomping at the bit to sue that dumb bitch that started all this shit. However comma no one is willing to give up her name even though I'm sure everyone in the Obama camp down to the agents know who she is. I'm not a lawyer or anything, but doesn't that constitute obstruction of justice? Good to know that there's "Hope" for "Change" in the new regime. It'll be even more corrupt than any other, yet it'll be blatantly obvious about it, not sneaking around like Chimpy McHalliburton BushHitler and his cronies, right? And there won't be much "change" in your pockets either, when they're through taxing the living dogshit out of me and you to support a buncha fuckin' no-loads. And don't challenge them, lest you too be sent off for "vacation".

Raaaaaaaaaacism

Wow. Just wow. The stupidity of some people just never ceases to amaze me. This seems to be the new cry of "Wolf" in the new millenium. If anybody disagrees with anyone else's opinion, they are just raaaacist.

The "socialist" label that Sen. John McCain and his GOP presidential
running mate Sarah Palin are trying to attach to Sen. Barack Obama actually has
long and very ugly historical roots.

So do these other famous socialists:
Vladimir Lenin
Joseph Stalin
Karl Marx
Frederich Engels
Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party (a.k.a. Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei or German National Socialist Workers Party)
Fidel Castro
Ernesto "Ché" Guevara
Evo Morales
Hugo Chavez

McCain and Palin have simply reached back in history to use an old code word for
black. It set whites apart from those deemed unAmerican and those who could not
be trusted during the communism scare.

Wait a minute...none of the people I mentioned above were black. And why did I list Fidel and Ché in with that bunch? You just think of them as just plain old Commies? Well, Karl Marx said that socialism would be achieved via class struggle and a proletarian revolution which represents the transitional stage between capitalism and communism in the Communist Manifesto.

And let's not forget the socialists within our midst:
Nancy Pelosi
Harry Reid
Bill & Hillary Clinton
Barney Frank

Hey, they're not black either. Barney Frank has shown that he's on board with the Democrat socialist bandwagon. I say that if Obama does get elected and imposes a higher tax rate for those "evil rich people", he should lower the bar some. Let's start at about $169,000. This way our Congresscritters like Pelosi, Reid, Clinton and Frank can all do their, in Joe Biden's words, "patriotic" duty by sharing more of the tax burden. And let's get rid of all the little tax shelters that are in place that these asshats use to avoid paying their "fair share" of the tax burden. Let's also tax them on all "contributions" made to their campaigns. That's income. After all, I had to pay taxes when I sold my house and took a loss, because it was seen as "income"...even though I never saw a fuckin' dime! Maybe then assholes like Barney Frank wouldn't be so hot and hard to punch the bore of the working-class man who is trying to improve the quality of life for himself and his family by working hard to make more money. But then again, I'm sure they'd find some way to weasel out of paying taxes. They're lawyers. That's what they do.

Wow

Looking through my old posts, I noticed I haven't posted any pics of my little man. He's getting so big. We're now on the trailing edge of potty training, he's doing it almost totally on his own now. Thought I'd post some pics from around his 3rd birthday. The pics from the beach were taken down in Galveston on Labor Day weekend, just before Ike came through and turned the island and surrounding areas into a soup sammich.

Sharing the Wealth

For those who don't know me, I don't find myself left real warm & fuzzy about the upcoming election. It could be the lack of choices. Let's see...we have a <s>socialist</s> <s>rat bastard commie</s> Democrat on one side and a <s>RINO</s> Republican on the other. Neither one would get my vote if there was any other viable candidate on the ticket.

But now we've got one of them showing their true colors even before the election has officially begun. And that color, my friends, is RED. A true socialist, talking about redistribution of wealth, trying to make it sound like it's what's best for the country. So you're going to hand out MORE "entitlements"? A proven foible of socialism and communism, is that when you take from the producer and give it to the non-producer, it diminishes the desire of the producer to keep producing. In the end, the producer gives up and says, "Fuck it...I get the same no matter what, so I might as well be a lazy fuck too!" So you're planning to not only raise the taxes on the "rich"(who pay an assload of taxes already), but you'll also be raising the taxes on the "middle class" in order to make sure that the lazy, shiftless assholes who don't wanna work don't have to get off their asses and find a job?

Don't get me wrong. I believe in the Social Security and Medicare programs. The people who are eligible for these benefits should receive them. After all, the majority of the people who receive them have worked all their lives and paid for it. Even the housewives who stayed at home while hubby was at work. They've paid their dues too. What I don't agree with is Medicaid. There needs to be some major review and reform in this department. If a family is truly poor, but at least trying to make it, then I can see them receiving this help. Notice I didn't say "entitlement". Remember, kiddies, welfare was supposed to be "a hand up, not a hand-out".

All of the illegals receiving benefits from social programs...sorry, you've been cut off. Oh, and a team of ICE agents is on their way to pick you up. Don't these programs have something called eligibility requirements? How's about making a fucking greencard a requirement? Or how about if you don't have a bona fide medical condition that prevents you from working, go out and get a motherfuckin' job and be a productive member of society like the rest of us. And I know the fed doesn't run all of the social programs. Some of those are run by the state, and are administered by the fed (like the Food Stamp program). Don't let me get started talking about SCHIP. Basically if you're like that asshole in Maryland that had too many kids and was bitching about how much it'll cost him to insure all of them...well, maybe you should've had less kids.

Back in the day, people had a whole bunch of kids mainly because they were farmers and the kids would help them work the land. My maternal grandfather was one of 13. They didn't latch onto the gummint tit because they couldn't afford if one of their kids got sick. They worked harder, paid it off and didn't whine about it. This is a government of the people, by the people and for the people. I don't see anything in there about a government that caters to the people because they're stupid and irresponsible.

And just when you didn't think it could get any worse...it does. <sarcasm>Apparently our Congresscritters have realized the error of their ways in the War on Poverty here in the States and want to ramp it up to a global level. </sarcasm> Obviously, they still think that the way to fix a problem is to throw money at it. Just great. How much more are my taxes going to go up, assholes? Here's a summary of what it's going to do and cost us.

He's going to turn the whole country into another Chicago. I fucking HATE Chicago. I heard him speak about Chicago in one of his stump speeches. Chicago is a shithole, you fuckin' liar. Not to mention, outside of your pointy-headed little view (just like your buddy Rod Blagojevich), Chicago is not the whole fucking state of Illinois, you dickweed. I grew up in Smalltown, Illinois. Chicago takes up about 10% of the state when you include all of "Chicagoland". What about the rest of the state?

Aww, fuck him. Much to my chagrin, he'll probably get elected. By hook or by crook, I'm sure. There'll be plenty of <s>rat bastard commies</s> Democrats that'll vote early and vote often, just like they do in Chicago. Then the socialism will really start to rear it's ugly head. I forsee a revolution in this country should that happen. Because one of the first thing he'll want to do is strip us of our 2nd Amendment rights. Then the "gun totin'", "bitter" people who "cling to religion" will go Red Dawn on your ass. And there are alot of them. I may not cling to religion, but I damn sure have guns. And the only way you and your little Obama Youth will take them from me is to pry them from my cold, dead fingers.

An excerpt from Reuters about the beach sex trial in Dubai:

If the law changed to suit Westerners, said one Emirati woman, it would be
her who lost her freedom. She already forbids her daughters from going to
Dubai's malls and hotels.
"It is up to the person who comes here to be
informed," said the woman, who like most declined to be named on a topic which
they feel is too sensitive to discuss in public.
"If there is an open trading
system which draws people from all over the world, it is not fair to ask why
they are not free. Wanna know why? This statement right here:

"If there is an open trading system which draws people from all over the
world, it is not fair to ask why they are not free. You have to follow the rules
of wherever in the world you go."

So if this applies to Muslim nations, why wouldn't this same rule apply to all nations? Why do you have immigrants coming into, I dunno, say the UK and asking to have their own laws and courts? Same thing goes for the Jewish "arbitration" courts in the UK. If you cannot abide by the laws of the country that you live in, then maybe you should pack sand back to the 3rd world Shitholestan you came from.

Amen, brother!!!

Denny wrote a helluva post regarding Barack Obama's "SUV" speech. Where Obama basically tells us as Americans what we can and can't do. You know what? Fuck. You. Obama.

Who the fuck do you think you are?! And, god forbid, if you do get elected, will our government actually become the "Nanny State" that you <s>socialists</s> Democrats have dreamed of? Who are you to tell the population of the most powerful and productive country in the world that they can or cannot do something? We pay farmers to NOT produce food fer chrissakes!! Although the trend seems to show that many manufacturers are outsourcing jobs to other countries, many products are still made only in the USA. We have 3% of the world's population and use 25% of its energy? Good!! More than likely it's because we're producing something worthwhile, not like the crap they've been cranking out of China...chock full of lead and made using slave labor. Who would we be saving this energy for anyway? Just for the record, my thermostat doesn't stay on 72 degrees. It stays pretty constant around 75 +/- 2 degrees, depending on how hot/cold I feel.

And if you want to bitch about oil consumption and cost, well, you can shift the blame for that clusterfuck on your Dhimmi-cratic elected officials, since they have rejected ideas for reducing our dependence on foreign oil by drilling in ANWR and off the coasts, and for not allowing any more refineries or nuclear plants to be built. Instead they want to increase the taxes on the folks who refine the oil. Now, I didn't do so hot in Economics class in high school, but businesses aren't in business to give away profits in the form of taxes, so they're going to tack on extra "surcharges" into their prices. And who is going to have to pay that? Oh, yeah...you and me, kids. They might as well pass out condoms at the gas station. Hell the way it's going politically in this country, they may as well give you a condom when you hit the voting booth. 'Cause we're going to be getting a royal fucking either way we go.

Ups and Downs

The average person who happens upon this blog would probably see some of my posts and say, "Mike, you're so negative. All you do is rant and rave about everything." Not true. There are many positive things in my life, but I prefer to vent about stupidity vice talking about things that involve my feelings.

The last couple of years have had their ups and downs. I missed out on buying a house due to my credit being as fucked up as a soup sammich. But that seems to have been a blessing in disguise. With my wife finding a job near where I work, we decided it would be better to move a bit closer to work instead of staying out on the west side, which makes for a helluva commute. I'm glad we didn't get that house, since we'd be stuck out there for 4 more years before we could sell it and try to get out of it what we owe. And the housing market is making a swirlie around the toilet bowl, so we'd have probably ended up getting screwed on that deal. Houston's not near as bad as some parts of the country, but when you're trying to sell something noone wants to buy, it can make life rather difficult.

We did eventually buy a house on the northeast side, which puts my commute at just over 15 miles. Beats the hell out of a 34 mile each way commute. The house we were going to buy was built by Kimball Hill, and they are a good builder. If you ever decide to buy a Kimball Hill home, see if a guy by the name of Jose Cavazos is still working with them. Last I knew he was at Lakes of Bridgewater off Mason Road in Katy. The house we ended up buying was built by David Weekley, another very good builder. The floorplan we chose had everything we wanted: covered porches front & back, study, open...it was an inventory home, so we got it at a good price too. I'll have to post some pics of it sometime. But with buying a new home comes decorating, and that tends to be a pain in the ass as well as the wallet.

My boy is getting huge, and speaking more clearly now, both in English and Spanish. He can count to 10, knows letters and is learning his colors. And he's not even 3 yet. And, like daddy, loves to fish. He has a couple of motorized fishing games and when he catches one will say, "Daddy, look...I caught a fish!" I'll have to post some more photos of him soon too.

My paternal grandfather passed away earlier this year. His death hit me particularly hard because I was rather close to him. I've been in a funk since I found out he was diagnosed with colon cancer, and when he passed away it got worse. I'll probably delve into that more some other time, just because it'll probably be a huge post.

I talked before about changing jobs, and I did. I was offered a position at a different agency for more pay, and the people where I was couldn't match the offer. I miss working with some of the guys over there, but I like the people I work with now too. The majority of us like to fish, and we get along well so there are relatively few problems. Every once in a while tempers can flare, or somebody feels like someone else pissed in their Wheaties, but everything is smoothed out a little while later and we're back to cutting up. The last two jobs I've worked at have been great. I worked at a privately owned company when I lived in Illinois, and that place felt like hell on earth. My friend Doug stayed on with them for about a year and a half after I left, and he moved on elsewhere. I guess he finally got tired of the mangement's bullshit too.

That's about it for now. I'll expand on some of this later and may open a few new cans of worms as well.

Don't use Xoom.com

I'm back, bitches!! Good gawd, it's been over 2 years since my last post. Not that I've had nothing to bitch about, just either been extremely busy or lack of enthusiasm. But I'm irritable as hell today, and I get home to hear my wife complaining about these assholes.

Xoom.com. Supposed to be a money sending service, like Western Union...only cheaper. Here's another example of "you get what you pay for". Shitty customer service and incompetent assholes answering the phones. Perfect example: My wife sends money back to her mom in Colombia for her birthday. She sends it in her aunt's name. Aunt has an issue with her gov't issued ID, since she has a temporary while she's awaiting the arrival of the actual ID. Kinda like what they give you at the DMV/DPS when you make changes to your Driver's License. Wife calls Xoom's customer service and she tries to change the payee name. The incompetent fuck on the other end says she can't do that, only they can. She says fine, change it. To which he replies, we can't. Then he offers her the option of cancelling. She says fine. It isn't until after he cancels the transaction that he informs her that it will be 5-10 business days until the money is credited back into her account. You gotta be fucking kidding me. Which is exactly what I said to the dumb bitch that told me it would be 10 days to return the money to my wife's checking account when I called them to find out wtf the deal was. She got all indignant, and told me not to use profanity. I asked for the supervisor, to which she said she was the supervisor. Good, I'll make sure my wife never uses your shitty service again and I'll make sure I tell everyone I know not to use it either, thank you very little. then I hung up on the bitch.

So in a few words: Fuck Xoom.com.

You motherfuckers will never see another red cent of my money. And if you were the last money sending service on earth, I'd make sure to walk the shit down myself before I'd use your service. I'm half tempted to call back and see if the next assclown that answers the phone is a supervisor too.

Same Shit, Different Pile

Here we go again...more hypocritical whining from the Muslims.

The Saudi-based secretariat of the 57-member Organization of the Islamic
Conference (OIC) said in a statement it was committed to press freedom, but that
journalists should be deterred "from premeditatedly vilifying, defaming and
violating the rights of others."
[...]
It said the
caricatures had insulted "a faith embraced and revered by over one-fifth of the
world population, and a religion that advocates peace, tolerance and moral
virtues."

Peace, tolerance and moral virtues, eh? Is that why you have protests that end in violence, honor killings, death sentences for apostasy, arrests of journalists for printing Mohammed cartoons (and people calling for their death), newspaper shutdowns, raped women being stoned, restrictions on other religions and women having no rights? Need I say more? Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the splodeydopes (thanks to SondraK for that term) in Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan.

Opening the event on Tuesday, OIC secretary-general Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu
said Muslims and their religion had been increasingly stereotyped, defamed,
marginalized, discriminated against and targeted for "hate crimes" in the West
since 9/11 and subsequent terrorist attacks in Madrid and London.

Probably because of your "hate crimes" against the West and Israel. Doesn't do much good for your image when your people are celebrating in the streets after terrorist attacks or glorifying the aforementioned splodeydopes to the world via media outlets, now does it?

Ihsanoglu said the "terrifying stereotyping we suffer from in the first
decade of the 21st century ... is a phenomenon that reminds us of the horrible
experiences of the anti-Semitism of the 1930s."

It's funny...you hate the Jews, yet you compare yourselves to them. You admit there was anti-Semitism, but deny the Holocaust. You people need to get your shit in one sock.

Then there's this asshole:

Hamas supremo Khaled Meshaal has defended Palestinian suicide bombings as a
"natural right,"
[...]
"Our enemies ... don't understand that a suicide operation ... is
a natural right,"

Sure, you dumbfucks can kill yourselves all day long. But instead of strapping explosives around your waists and detonating yourselves on a bus full of children and old people, why not just go out on your back patio and eat the business end of a pistol? It's quick and just as effective.

"The United States want to impose their hegemony on countries of the region.
They don't offer relations that are balanced, of mutual interest and respect,"
Meshaal said.

At Camp David in 2000, Clinton pretty much offered the world on a silver platter to Arafat, shy of sucking his dick right there at the negotiating table. Arafat refused, so you can blame him for your problems. Now that I think about it, if Clinton would've offered to suck Arafat's dick, he probably would've accepted. From what I understand he had a little sugar in his gas tank. Amazing that he had to go to Fwantz ( a country that doesn't disclose cause of death) to be treated for his "mysterious illness" whose symptoms were so similar to AIDS that it's uncanny.

Boycott Cinco de Mayo

In response to the "A Day without Gringos" boycott on the annual communist celebration day of May 1st (May Day), I have elected to boycott Mexican goods and services for the month of May. Although I am considered a "gringo" by most Hispanics, and have even referred to myself as such, that does not change the high degree of offensiveness that I felt from the idea of such a thing. Especially coming from a group that, for the most part, shouldn't even be here.

So for the month of May I shall boycott any and all things Mexican. No produce, no beer, no going to Mexican restaurants or any places that I know willingly hire illegal aliens to work there.

And I'll be boycotting Stinko de Mayo as well. I really don't think we as Americans should celebrate a day where the Mexicans defeated the French (Battle of Puebla, 1862). Even though it was probably the last time the Mexicans defeated anybody. Fuck 'em.

My Little Buddy

It's been a while since I've given an update on my boy. He's got his 2 bottom teeth now, and he's working on getting the top ones in. Amazingly enough, he's not been cranky or anything during the whole process. He just slobbers like hell and chews on everything he can get his hands on. He can sit by himself, but can't sit up by himself. He's starting to scoot backwards and he's trying to get his butt up in the air to crawl, but that will come soon. But I have to keep an eye on him, because he can roll. Fast. He'll cross a king-sized bed real quick. He's saying "dada", "mama", I've heard him say "agua" (we speak both languages to him), and "qua qua" (quack quack...he loves his rubber ducky).

Oh, and it looks like we're going to have to buy him some kind of tricycle type thing. The babysitter's grandson has one and he just loves to get up on it. I was offered a shot as a Senior Tech at a place where a former co-worker now works. I did the interview on the 19th, and things went pretty well. For me, it's a step up since I'll be increasing my yearly salary by over $10,000. With a mortgage payment coming up soon (our house will be finished sometime in May), and with my little boy getting bigger it'll be a big help.

I just hate to feel like I'm fucking anybody over, especially Sergeant Dan and Greg, who's over the security side of the shop. The both of them will probably get stuck with the day-to-day tasks that I normally do. So to make sure everything does go smoothly until the new guy gets here, I'm finishing up all the tasks and projects that I've been trying to accomplish for a while now. It just seems I don't have the time because every time I get started on one thing, someone needs something else and I get dragged off on their little pet project. Maybe time management isn't my strong suit, eh?

So I should be hearing very shortly from the HR Department of my new workplace. I've already heard from the shop supervisor telling me they submitted the package to their HR. So now it's a matter of negotiating my new salary. Anybody have some tips and/or suggestions?

Mike, Where the Hell Have You Been?

It's a long story. Basically I spent a week in the hospital with a range of ailments, some of which they still haven't figured out yet. Diverticulitis, kidney stones, some sort of mystery infection that would cause my temperature to spike to 103 for no reason, and what they think might be mono, a.k.a. mononucleosis. I haven't known anyone with mono since I was in high school. And who the hell have I been sucking face with that I would get it? Uh...nobody. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that while I was in there they decided they might as well operate on an umbilical hernia that I've had for about 4 years or so.

After convalescing at home for a couple of days after my release, I decided it was time to go back to work. My wife wanted to kill me, but if I'm gone too long I get waaaayyy behind. And I can't afford to do that. Well, yesterday I had a follow-up with the surgeon and while I'm driving the 30 miles from my work to the doc's office, about halfway there I get this pain in my back like Andre the Giant has grabbed ahold of my kidney and starts to squeeze. That's right, kids...a kidney stone worked it's way loose and was trying to find its way out and was having alot of trouble hitting the hole I might add. And by the time I reached the doc's office if felt like Andre had an even better grip and was jabbing a knife from my kidneys all the way down through my nads. So they ended up having to wheel me from the doc's office to the ER. Which, luckily, are within the same building complex.

They say that passing a kidney stone for a guy is equivalent to childbirth. Oh really? Do I get a fuckin' epidural too? That might have helped some. It's got to be pretty bad when I'll admit there was pain, but when it's so bad it makes me puke, you know there's a pretty heavy amount of pain involved. When I was in the hospital the first time I was offered Morphine and then Percocet. I refused them both because I didn't want narcotics put into my body. But last night when they offered me a prescription for Vicodin, you know I jumped on that mofo. I took one last night and it didn't do shit really. This morning I started getting those pains again, so I popped 2. I've felt no pain the rest of the day.

Now This Is Cool...

Check this out:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=672422470842718521

Yeah, I'm a dork. Well, I'm gonna get my $.02 in as well.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm all for free speech and dissent, no problem. However comma there is a time when your opinions should be stifled and that time comes when you're on the job. If someone else pays your salary, then you are entitled to absolutely nothing, save to STFU and do your job. Even more so when the taxpayers' dollar funds your paycheck.

Just for the record, Jay Bennish's comments were made while teaching a Geography class. Not Social Studies, not History, not Government and not Current Events. Geography. That means you teach the kids where stuff is located in the world, not your fucking opinion about how the country is run. Why not save that until after school? At least then you're not trying to indoctrinate today's youth with your communist attitude while the people who actually work pay your wages, asshole. No wonder these kids come out of high school dumber than dirt. You can't even teach the class you were charged with. And look at that photo...that's a pedo-smile* if I ever saw one.

My opinion...he should be fired. Same thing would happen to me if I started spouting off political rhetoric while I was on the job. If I was a parent of a child at this school, that would be a goal. If not possible (because you know the NEA and ACLU will probably be all over this like flies on shit...and of course on the wrong side of it too), pull your kid from the school. Or at the very least make damn sure your kid doesn't take any more classes with Mr. Moonbat. Ever.

*All thanks, hail and praises to Maddox for that one.

Oh, Jeezus!!!

OK, I gotta admit it's funny as hell. I really don't care to hear any more. The Drudge Report has a story about Newsweek and Time covering the story for another week. The liberal types must be happier than a busload of retards on their way to Chucky Cheese.

Personally, I've heard quite enough about it. It's old news. Quit beating a dead horse. It was a hunting accident, plain and simple. Dick apologized. Harry's OK. Check this out from MEMRI.

On February 16, 2006, the reformist Internet daily Rooz
(www.roozonline.com) reported for the first time that extremist clerics from Qom
had issued what the daily called "a new fatwa," which states that "the shari'a
does not forbid the use of nuclear weapons."

Really? Wasn't Iran saying up until, oh about 5 minutes ago, that nuclear weapons were not allowed by Shari'a Law?

"The religious leadership of the Islamic Republic [of Iran], which has
until now regarded the use of nuclear weapons as opposed to the Shari'a, and has
repeated this point again and again, has so far kept silent about this. In spite
of the fact that, in the last few weeks, some of the senior [leaders] of the
Islamic Republic have tried to reduce the pressure [exerted by] the radical
[conservatives], the radicals nevertheless seem to have complete control over
the [political] arena.

How convenient that you can "re-interpret" your "religious laws" to suit your own desires. This statement further cements the fact that your religion and your politics are intertwined. Therefore, quit your bitchin' about caricatures of your "prophet"...he's just as good a target as Sharon, Bush, Jesus, or any other politician or historical figure. Seperate your religion and your politics and you may have a shot at convincing the world that the caricatures were not in the best of taste. Well, that and quit doing stupid shit like burning embassies of governments you don't agree with and stoning women for not wearing a headscarf.

Still want to convince me that yours is the "religion of peace"? Because it's getting harder and harder to see it as such.

Damn Straight

The image came from here, linked to by SondraK. Then again, animals aren't that base. At least animals have common sense. Yeah, I'm posting them too. Don't like it? I got two words for you. Fuck. You. So go on, keep chanting "Death to [insert country du jour here]", burning flags, ransacking businesses, threatening people's lives and boycotting products. Maybe when you fuckers have nothing left to eat but sand you'll finally turn on the radical imams (you know, the bastards who have hijacked, perverted and made a laughingstock of your religion, while treating you like mushrooms...keeping you in the dark, feeding you shit). But I doubt it. They'll probably say something like "it's the will of Allah that you suffer," and you'll soak it up like a sponge. Meanwhile, they're living high on the hog. Even the Arab news has written an article about how sad the Arabs have become. No wonder the world sees the Middle East as the producer of only two things: oil and suicide bombers.

Thanks to James Joyner for the cartoons.

Ilegales and Indocumentados

First off, I don't watch a whole lot of TV. On Fridays I watch Smackdown. I don't get to watch RAW on Mondays anymore because I'm a cheap bastard and refuse to pay for cable. I can pick up like 12 stations for free that have nothing on, why the hell am I gonna fork out $40-50/month for 50 channels that don't have a damn thing to watch either? Every once in a while my wife will turn on the news when her novelas (hispanic soap operas) are done. While this is the hispanic channel news, which tends to show a bit more of the graphic details but still has the lamestream media left slant to it, it almost never fails that they don't have a story relating to indocumentados (undocumented immigrants). Let's get one thing straight. They are NOT indocumentados. They are ilegales. Period. They entered this country illegally, and should be given the moniker that reflects their actions.

Being the kind of person that I am, I don't treat people like shit, regardless of immigration status, job, social standing, etc. I treat everyone as I wish to be treated. But if you come to this country illegally, you should be denied the rights that the citizens of this country are afforded.

You can't vote. This means if you cannot produce a legal document stating that you were born here or are a naturalized citizen, you can have absolutely nothing to do with this country's elections.

You can't get a driver's license. Same deal applies here. No citizenship, or no legal documentation that supports that you are here legally, no license.

No social services. I personally cannot understand why anyone who is here illegally can have access to welfare or medicaid when it's almost friggin' impossible for the citizens of this country to receive any type of aid.

No tuition assistance or breaks for not being a resident. This is just stupid. You're telling me that someone who is not even considered a resident can get a break on tuition, while the residents of that state can't?

Oh, Mike...you're such a racist. Bullshit. I'm a realist. If I were to go to any other country in this world, I'd be shit out of luck trying to get anything from those governments. And that's a fact, Jack. Anyhoo, how in the fuck can you call me a racist? My wife is Latina and we have a mixed race child. My family immigrated here in the 1800's from Ireland and Germany. My great-great-grandmother was Amerind. Obviously, it was good enough for my family to come here legally, but not so for the people nowadays? Fuck you and the horse you rode in on. The real racists here are the White Power/Aryan Nation freaks and the people who talk about La Raza.

This brings me to another point. The multiple language signs? That's bullshit. English is the primary language of this country, and should be the official language. Can't read English? Too fuckin' bad. Learn. There's a plethora of classes available at your local learning institutions. I've even seen churches offer free classes for people who wish to learn English. This country was/is supposed to be a "melting pot". Not come here and stay in your own little world, not integrate with the rest of society, and try to turn it into the Third World shithole that you came running here from because it sucked so bad. Speak your own language at home or amongst yourselves...I have no problem with that. Hell, I do it myself. But don't expect anyone to feel sorry for you because you've been here 5 or 6 years and still can't speak the language. That's because you're fuckin' lazy.

The more I see and hear from the lamestream media about these subjects, the more I'm inclined to agree with Michael Savage:

Borders. Language. Culture.

And if you don't love this country and, when the time comes, are not willing to take up arms and defend it with your life, fortune and sacred honor as our forefathers were, THEN GET THE FUCK OUT. I will not allow some namby pamby pissant to sashay across the battlefield that I fight on saying "Give peace a chance. Can't we all just get along?" I'll be the first to bury a bullet in that sack of unused gray matter atop your neck. Dissent is one thing, and a privilege given to us and protected by those who gave their lives defending freedom in this country and abroad. We're allowed to dissent when we feel that our government does not represent our views. I have no problem with that. I do have a problem with those who are more than content to roll over and wet on themselves in the name of political correctness or because they don't want to fight for the same rights for their children or for other human beings into which the people of this great nation were born or were nationalized. Everyone should be allowed the same freedoms as those of us in this country, no matter where in the world they live. Maybe then we wouldn't have to seal off our borders to stem the tide of illegals and those who wish to do this country harm.

NOTE: Linked with Beltway Traffic Jam for 2/15/06

WTF Is Wrong with You People?

What in the hell is the problem with the world today? Are people just getting stupider, or is it TV that's sucking the intelligence from their heads as they sit and stare at the idiot box for hours on end every night? Here's some fine examples of the world's latest dumbshits:

Fla. Dad Guilty Of Stomping 5-Year-Old To Death
My problem with this is threefold.

Why in the fuck did Child Protective Services (DCF, DCFS, CPS, whatever) give this kid to his father when it was known that he was a coke dealer and known perpetrator of domestic violence?

This dude stomped his own kid to death. Pretty fucking brutal.

It took the jury two hours to deliberate whether or not he was guilty? I was surprised they didn't do a vote right there in the courtroom. Shouldn't have taken more than 15 minutes at the most.

'Choking Game' Continues To Attract, Kill Children

"I'm sure Kodee didn't know that what he did was going to kill him."

So you're admitting you raised a kid with no fuckin' sense? How much brains does it take to realize that doing something like that could kill you?

Grandparents Accused Of Leaving Toddler In Car Outside Bar

You leave a 2 year-old boy in your car, in the cold with no heat, to go drink? Yeah, I know...it's Florida. It doesn't get that cold. But it does get cold enough that you shouldn't leave a kid in the car for any length of time. These people need to be dragged into the street and beaten severely. Just like the people who leave their kids in the car in the middle of summer. Obviously they're too stupid to be having kids, so they should have their kids taken away and be sterilized. These grandparents should never be allowed to even so much as hear this kid fart through a walkie-talkie for the remainder of their lives.

Documents: Teens 'Bum Hunting' Before Fatal Beating

Each and every one of these little bastards should get the chair. Did I just say that? Yup, sure did. By the time a child is 5 years old, he should know the difference between right and wrong. Regardless of the vitim's social standing, doing what these teens did is wrong. And why did they do it? To get into a "gang". What a bunch of pussies. I hope they do get the chair, that way the people who work hard and pay taxes don't have to support these miserable bastards for the rest of their lives.

I'm Utterly Disgusted

How shameless can a group of people be? I don't care who you are, when at a funeral you're there to pay respects to the dead and console the family in their time of loss. Not turn it into some kind of political circus for your own gain. This applies to everyone...you're not granted any social immunity just because you hold a title or political office. I have never seen such political backbiting and pandering at what should be a solemn event, just for the sake of "securing the Black vote". And I'm speaking directly to you:
Rev. Joseph Lowery
Bill Clinton
Hillary Clinton
Jimmah "The Worst President of the 20th Century" Carter

I'm about to lay a fisking on some folks, so hold onto your tinfoil hats and your glasses of Kool-Aid, kids.

"We know now that there were no weapons of mass destruction over there," Lowery said.

No shit, Sherlock? Did it take the President admitting that in front of the whole world a few weeks ago, or did you have to hire a group of talking monkeys from dailykos to tell you that?

"But Coretta knew, and we know," Lowery continued,
"That there are weapons of misdirection right down here," he said,
nodding his head toward the row of presidents past and present.

Yup. Namely, Jimmah, Bill and Hillary. Oh, wait. Weren't the Race Warlord Poverty Pimps Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson there? Yup. Them too. A big part of the problem with Black America is the leaders of the Democratic party and the so-called "black leaders" like Al and Jesse. The last real leaders were Dr. King and Malcolm X...ever since then all they've had is a bunch of substitute teachers. If anybody were running anything like a "plantation", it would be these two groups. How about instead of laying all the blame for your woes on the rich old white men running the Republican party, you do some looking at the rich old white men running the Democratic party and do a comparison. Just to make things fair.

"For war, billions more, but no more for the poor!"

Hmmm, haven't the poor received enough already? We've pumped trillions of dollars into the War on Poverty and the situation has only become worse. Proof yet again that throwing money at a problem will not fix it, but create a dependency that every year requires more and more funding. Maybe instead of giving this money away, we should invest it in giving these people training and job skills. Oops, yeah, that's the last thing they want...to have to work instead of standing around with their hand out.

Bill and Hillary:

"I'm honoured to be here with my president and my former
presidents and ...," he trailed off, motioning in his wife's direction to loud
and sustained applause.

God help this country if that beast should ever be elected as President. This country would be making a swirlie around the bowl in no time as she plunged it into the quagmire of socialism.

From Jimmah:

"It was difficult for them then personally with the civil
liberties of both husband and wife violated as they became the target of secret
government wiretaps."

Wait a sec. Wasn't that done under the Kennedy and Johnson administrations at the direction of Attorney General Robert Kennedy? Weren't they all Democrats? 'Nuff said.

And lastly, more from Jimmah:

"This commerative cermony this morning, this afternoon,
is not only to acknowledge the great contributions of Coretta and Martin, but to
remind us that the struggle for equal rights is not over. We only have to recall
the color of the faces of those in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi,"

And let's not forget that there's not only black people living in those states, and not just black people suffered from those disasters. Even though the lamestream media as they portrayed it would have you believe otherwise.

Buy Danish

Let's show solidarity with our European friends and buy products from them in light of the boycotts of their products in the World's Armpit (a.k.a. the Middle East). Here's a list of companies and products:

- Danish Havarti cheese
- Carlsberg Beer
- Tuborg Beer
- Arla owns White Clover Dairy, a Wisconsin company that packages under the names White Clover and Holland Farm
- Danish Crown (DAK) products - Hams and baby back ribs sold at Sam's Club
- The Danish Foodshop
- Danish Deli Foods
- Danish Porcelain
- Lego. If yours differs from mine, great. Present the arguments you have in a coherent form and we'll discuss them. However, I have a problem with people who, for whatever reason, distort or discount documented facts for their own political/religious gain. This goatfucking sack of pigshit is one.

Over the course of the last couple of months we've heard such wisdom come spewing forth from his suckmuscle such as:
"[Israel] must be wiped off the map."
"The Holocaust is a myth."
"The 'tumour' of the state of Israel should be relocated to Europe."
"Germany and Austria can provide the... regime with two or three provinces for this regime to establish itself, and the issue will be resolved."
"We are not allowed to negotiate on the principle of having peaceful nuclear technology."

First off, I don't think you crazy fuckers should be allowed nuclear weapons, given your propensity to blow shit up first and ask questions later. Secondly, Jews have been in that region for around 3,000 years, and they deserve to remain in the same lands that their ancestors dwelled in. From the intellectualconservative.com:
Israel has advanced a coherent case, based upon the precepts of international law, for sovereignty over Jerusalem. The Palestinians, for their part, have failed to offer any legal grounds in support of their claim to the city. Their claim seems to be based solely on their desire to possess it.
Before the advent of Islam, the Jews and Arabs lived together in the region in peace, fighting the Romans and the Christians who invaded the area. The only reason that Arabs hate the Jews is due to the perversion of Islam by the corrupt Imams that wish to rule the world under a caliphate with an iron fist. They even go so far as to divide the world into two houses, the "house of peace" and the "house of war". The house of peace is the rule of Islam under Sharia law, where the kaffir's (non-believer) fate is death, enslavement or exile.

Now, his new interest is debunking the "myth" of the Holocaust, and Iran will host a convention for the "scientific examination" of the wholesale slaughter of Jews during World War II. I'm sure there will plenty of Anti-Jewish rhetoric to be flying around, considering the mindset of the "scholars" that will be in attendance. Likely those who already deny the Holocaust. Tell you what...why don't you hateful bastards invite some of the WWII veterans who liberated Aushwitz, Buchenwald and the rest, and have them give their detailed accounts of the atrocious conditions and the horrors that they encountered? Or why not invite some of the Holocaust survivors to speak? Or would that not be conducive to furthering your agenda for the eradication of Israel? Did you know the UN also had a hand in the creation of Israel?
"The Holocaust denial by the regime in Iran is not only offensive and racist but it also demonstrates the mindset of the extremist regime in Tehran. The combination of an extremist ideology, a distorted view of reality together with nuclear weapons is a combination that should concern every thinking individual."-- Mark Regev, Spokesman of the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"Iran is proving yet again what an extreme, fundamentalist, lunatic regime it is," -- Dan Gillerman, Israel's Ambassador to the UN.

Oh, and let's not forget when buttboy addressed the UN. Oh, now this is rich. So he's not just an asshole, but a total religious loony too. This just lumped you in with the likes of Pat Robertson, you Qu'ran thumping dipshit. Everybody was staring at you because they couldn't believe what a chode you really are. You just showed your true colors, dickweed. Now we know...and knowing is half the battle. This nutsack shouldn't have his finger on the fuckin' button. He seriously thinks he's the catalyst to bring about Judgement Day, the Second Coming, or whatever you want to call it.

Finally, we have this from Daniel Pipes. "The most dangerous leaders in modern history are those (such as Hitler) equipped with a totalitarian ideology and a mystical belief in their own mission. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad fulfills both these criteria, as revealed by his U.N. comments. That combined with his expected nuclear arsenal make him an adversary who must be stopped, and urgently."

Compromise

So it seems we have reached a compromise. Of sorts, anyway. Now it seems, we'll be working a rotating shift, half on a 5/8 schedule and half on a 4/10, swapping every week. Ok...

Still won't stop me from doing some looking around and keeping my options open. I already contacted my old boss. I can go back there and do less work for more pay plus a company vehicle. I also have a buddy who works for the railroad. They always need people, plus the pay is pretty steep. I probably would no longer be working as a radioman there, but if the pay is right...who cares? I'm such a whore. I'll sell my soul to the highest bidder, I'll make no bones about that.

Skills to Pay the Bills Y'all

*Sways Head* Oh, No You Didn't

Oh yes, they did. They finally did it. They pencil-fucked my schedule. As I stated in a previous post, the quickest way to get us to crawl up their asses or walk out the door would be to change our 4/10 work schedule. Now they want us there 5 days/week, some of us working 0700-1600 and others working 0900-1800 on a weekly rotation. Umm...do they realize what the fuckin' traffic is like between 8 and 9am in Houston? I'd have to leave the house at 6am just to make it on time anyway.

That's not the worst part. The worst part is it's going to cost me more to go into work, effectively taking food from my kid's mouth. Get this shit: I carpool to work with 2 other guys. So I only drive once every 3 weeks. Saves an assload on gas. Now it's going to not only cost me 2 weeks worth of gas more per month since I can no longer carpool with the schedule change, but working the extra day per week is essentially costing me 3 weeks worth of gas per month more (in comparison w/ a 4 day work week). Vehicle maintenance...more. Child care...more, since I arrive later and have to work Fridays. Oh yeah, and my second job? That's pretty much making a swirly down the shitter unless I want to work 7 days a week. That sucks major goat balls. Or I could work one day a week, but then why bother?

I was trying to remain pretty much neutral and see things from both sides' perspectives. But this...this means the gloves are off. We're supposed to have a "cuss and discuss" session on Tuesday. They're going to hear my opinion about this, like it or not. Oh, yeah...and never to be stuck in one spot, I called my old boss. They have a position open. All I have to do is apply. Let's see...I do less than I do at my present job, 4-6k more per year, and a company vehicle. And overtime, not this comp-time bullshit that they make us do here. And back to a 4/10 schedule.

Let's see what LT Fatass and his laughing chimp the project manager have to say. Cliff (the project manager) is a brown-nosing ballsack tarzan that hardly moves from his position under LT Fatass' desk. He likes to spy on us and report anything and everything back to the LT. If he stays during our little pow-wow session, I'm going to request that he leave. And I'm not going to be nice about it. I don't wanna hear shit come out of his suckmuscle, mainly because none of this pertains to him and he's an annoying little fuck. So his presence is not needed nor wanted.

Edit: WTF kinda circus is this? They've changed our hours again. This time we're all working from 0730-1630. Kinda defeats the "purpose" that they had for staggering our schedules, so that we have coverage from 0700 until 1800. GMAFB! What a load of dumbasses they have in charge.

Don't Get Too Technical

Being in the line of work that I am, I get the odd favor asked of me every once in a while of "Hey, can you fix my..." I've been brought everything from toasters to TV's. This time it's a computer. I've had my fair share of experience with hardware and software, so it's not real hard. I'm just taking my time with it. Carlos is a friend, but he's pretty ignorant when it comes to computers. I'm not saying it like it's a bad thing, just it's not something he's interested enough in I guess. He's kinda like my wife when it comes to computers, and with her, it's the same for cars too. Basically get in, turn the damn thing on and go. My wife is still trying to understand the concept of vehicle maintenance. She seems to think that when you buy a car, you shouldn't have to spend any money on it to keep it running.

Back to the computer. Some dude looked it over and told him he needed more memory. Or at least that's what he thinks he said. Actually what it needs is a total replacement of the mobo (motherboard). And the CPU. And the video card. And the hard drive. Turns out it's got a 380MHz CPU, 4MB integrated video card and a whopping 4GB hard drive. There's nothing you can do to this thing to make it fast. Except replace the parts with faster stuff. So I did what I could do to minimize the slowness, and I'll be giving it back to him probably this weekend.

That ain't all, oh no. While I was in the middle of giving that monstrosity the once over, my wife's computer decides to go tits-up. Wonderful. Allow me to modify a prior saying:

"If it's got tits, tires, or 'trons (electronics), it's gonna be trouble."

I May Be Going to Hell, But I'm Enjoying the Ride

<table style="width: 400px; First off, on Thursday while I was returning home, my normal back-and-forth-to-work beater had a flat tire. No spare, and no jack. Fucking lovely. Was stuck on the side of the road for about 45 minutes waiting on a tow truck. Luckily, Houston has a program called "Safe Clear", and they towed me from where I was to the nearest tire shop, which was less than a mile away. For free...well it's free for me, the tow company charges the city $50. Got the tire changed ($70) and continued on my way. Now, mind you, Thursday and Friday I had gotten up at 3am to do some stuff at work before night shift left and Thursday I got home at my usual time (6:30pm). Makes for a long day.

Today, my wife's grocery-getter and critter-wagon(Jeep Liberty) decided to go tits-up too. Luckily we were in a parking lot, not on the freeway. Turned the key and got jack shit. Not even interior lights. And no, I didn't leave the lights on. Some nice lady that was parked in front of us tried to give us a jump, but it wouldn't stay running. Hmmm...could it be the alternator? There's usually signs, leading up to the point where it dies (radio gets real fuzzy, lights get dim, other accessories are sluggish/quit working). I saw nothing up to the point where it quit working. I figure it's the alternator or the voltage regulator. Since it was Sunday, of course the warranty company wasn't open so I have to leave it where it's at and get it towed in the morning. There's a Jeep dealer right next to where my wife works, so I'll just have it towed there. Let's just see how much I gotta shell out this time and whether or not the extended warranty I bought when we got the vehicle covers it.

Goes to prove the old saying, "If it's got tits or tires, there's going to be trouble."

More Pics of My Little Man

Got these taken while up at Mom's. I haven't really had the time or the inclination to post lately. Mama's back to work, and I'm watching Daniel in the evenings. That kind of eats up my time and energy. But now I'm back and here's another post about work.

I went on leave for about a week and a half, and when I got back upon checking my mail I found a letter signed by our tech services team addressed to our captain. To summarize what this letter contained, the other guys are rather upset about some of the changes that our new lieutenant has implemented. They are also not happy about his style of leadership. I've worked several jobs (never been fired, always quit for one reason or another) and been through several changes of leaderships while on those different jobs. As my friend Doug has so eloquently put it, when a new supervisor comes in it's at his discretion whether or not to make changes to the existing order in order to achieve his goals for the department. I can't say that I disagree with that statement. It's basically a given that at some point or another that there's going to be some changes, like it or not. It's how you decide to deal with it. To me, the changes that have been made so far are no big deal. We have to work 3 holidays per year, we're all working Mon-Thurs and one person works Friday on a rotating basis (10 techs = once every 2-1/2 months). When I say 10 techs, mind you I am the only radio tech, but I get lumped in with the other techs we have that do CCTV and door security(card readers and electronic door locks).

Anywho, this morning we had a big cuss and discuss session before our regular morning meeting, and the guys got to vent some of their concerns. I'm trying to remain neutral through the whole deal, though it seems as if the other guys have the same argument that they re-hash over and over again. "What are we doing wrong? Tell us the problem so we can fix it." The truth is, we're not doing anything wrong, but there's issues that need to be addressed and the changes are due to those issues. Mainly customer service related, like rapidness of repairs and such. I think our biggest problem has to stem from budget/material issues. We try to work with what we're given, but that only goes so far. When you're given the shit end of the stick, there's not much you can accomplish, and we're constantly getting shortchanged and denied the parts we need to do our jobs. Myself included. I had $130k budgeted last year for the purchase of radios and other equipment and accessories, but those funds were then taken from me and given to patrol for use because of their overtime budget. When we needed OT to complete jobs or for special projects we were told to take comp time, which essentially shorts the regular workforce since we can't come in or work until the normal time. Some of the guys have worked for free just because they wanted to get the job done. And just before I went on vacation, I put in a request for $7500 worth of parts and someone upstairs decided to slash it in half just because they figured I didn't need everything I ordered. Wrong.

But we'll see how things turn out. I know one thing's for sure...if they fuck with our 4 day/week schedule, they'll have every last one of us either crawling up their ass or walking out the door. Myself included. I'll take a lot of shit, but that's something that will not stand.

Do you hear bells?

'Cause somebody just got schooled...

That's right, today I was in class for RF Site Safety Awareness training. Basically a review of what to do and what not to do concerning RF safety and signage. Sounds exciting right? Really it wasn't that bad. Interesting stuff for those in the same career field as I. The class was held by a company called RSI, and the instructor's name was Steve and he's pretty charismatic. All in all, I learned quite a bit. I learned that I have a lot of work ahead of me as I try to make the changes I think should be made to this department so it's where I think it should be with respect to radio standards. Only bad thing is that I have a ton of other projects ahead of me. Maybe I'll put it down as one of my goals for the next fiscal year.

Home Again, Home Again, Jiggety Jig

And for you race-baiting fuckwits out there, it's not a racial reference. On Monday afternoon the wife, the little man and I packed our stuff and flew out of Houston to STL to visit my parents and family in IL for Thanksgiving. Mom was pleasantly surprised. My sis actually somewhat did keep it a secret. Mom figured the next time she would see her grandson would be when he turned 18, save her coming down to Houston. She was complaining the other day about how I said we'd come home on the holidays before moving back to Houston and we hadn't come home yet. I didn't mean every damn holiday.

I won't be able to be totally lazy during my time off. I get to help my brother-in-law run a Cat 5 cable to my niece's room. I'm sure my Mom will have some stuff for me to do too. Plus I have to fix my sister's computer so it's no longer as fucked up as a soup sammich. Hmmm...first thing? Get rid of the damn thing. Oh wait, that's probably not an option. So I guess I'm gonna have to fix it the old fashioned way. Going through the damn thing with a fine-toothed comb. I hate Compaq/HP. Too much proprietary software. All of it junk. My wife's computer is my old Compaq with my own custom software install on it. I lovingly refer to it as "the Comcrap". I bought a Dell off a co-worker, and the thing has performed impressively. My next project will be to put aside some cash in order to build my own system, but right now that has to take a back burner to everything else. The boy is holding a quarter. Suddenly, the boy starts choking, going blue in the face The father realizes the boy has swallowed the quarter and starts panicking, shouting for help.
A well dressed, attractive and serious looking woman, in a blue business suit is sitting at a coffee bar reading a newspaper and sipping a cup of coffee. At the sound of the commotion, she looks up, puts her coffee cup down, neatly folds the newspaper and places it on the counter, gets up from her seat and makes her way, unhurried, across the book store.
Reaching the boy, the woman carefully drops his pants; takes hold of the boy's testicles and starts to squeeze and twist, gently at first and then ever so firmly. After a few seconds the boy convulses violently and coughs up the quarter, which the woman deftly catches in her free hand.
Releasing the boy's testicles, the woman hands the coin to the father and walks back to her seat in the coffee bar without saying a word.
As soon as he is sure that his son has suffered no ill effects, the father rushes over to the woman and starts thanking her saying, "I've never seen anybody do anything like that before, it was fantastic.
Are you a doctor?"
"No," the woman replied. "Divorce attorney".

Martel Electronics Sucks

Martel makes the Dash Hound vehicle video system. It's a dash-mounted camera, basically a Sony handi-cam, an electronics control box and a mount that has a suction cup that mounts to the windshield, and 2 straps to secure it in place. It's fuckin' junk.

Before I took this job, someone ordered these monstrosities because they were cheap, about $1400 per unit. Ever hear the old adage "you get what you pay for"? This is a prime example. Did I mention they're fuckin' junk? Not to mention shitty customer service. They won't even return my calls. Their motto ought to be "Once you buy it, you're on your fuckin' own, pal."

In my business, I've dealt with a few vehicle camera systems.
Kustom Signals' Eyewitness camera: Though rather clunky (got a full sized VCR in a vault in the trunk) and a pain in the ass to install, it's a workhorse and almost impossible to kill. Short of putting a bullet through the damn thing. They even have a vault that is bullet- and fire-proof. They now have a digital system with a rear-facing infrared camera on the headliner mount control panel that can keep an eye on the arrestee(s) in the back seat. Comes with choice of hard drive or DVD drive and have a pretty small front facing camera so it doesn't block your view. They have a lot of options. Plus they look cool. I've never had a problem with these systems, save operator error.
Decatur Electronics Gemini system: It's a good system, it's small and easy to put in and maintain. Just gotta keep the cops from losing the keys to the compartment that houses the recorder. The digital system has a touch screen display, which in my experience is a big no-no. Cops and firefighters are not known for their gentleness with their equipment.
Panasonic Arbitrator: Another good, small, rugged system. Interfaces with the Panasonic Toughbook mobile data terminal(MDT). The Toughbook is basically a laptop with a wireless internet connection. Only problem I've seen with it is the display on the screen. Can be occluded by other windows on the Toughbook being open, reducing the chance the officer will be able to see while he's filling out paperwork and running driver's license and plate info. Comes with option of a hard drive or a solid-state drive (like the memory card in your digital camera). I'm not a big fan of hard drives in vehicles, just because of the chingazos (bumps) they can sometimes take.
Motorola Enforcer: I'm sort of biased toward Motorola. They make some kick-ass products. From cell phones, to two-way radios, to video. Plus I'm a former Motorolan. Yet another kick-ass product from the Galvin family. Comes with a 60GB hard drive and interfaces with their version of the MDT. See above for my thoughts on hard drives in vehicles.
Martel Dash-Hound DH1: POS. Worst system I've ever seen in my life. Let's start with the way it is mounted. Two straps to hold the back in place and on the front...a suction cup that attaches to the windshield. A suction cup? Yup. Damn thing doesn't hold suction either. And with the heat here in Houston if it stays stuck to the windshield it flattens out, therefore losing all its suction capability. That makes it a flying object hazard if you get into an accident, or even hit a decent bump. Secondly, the camera sits directly in the sun. Not a good thing. You know how hot it gets down here? Roll the windows up and leave it in the sun, then turn on the A/C, oh wow...now you've got condensation inside the camera. What a concept. The cameras themselves are a whole other ball of wax. It has two jacks on the side for microphone functions and I'll be damned if they don't fall out. Now the concept of having a camera you can take out to film an accident or crime scene is good in theory, but how often will that really be used? And as for the little control box that's mounted underneath the bracket, well the antenna jacks seem to have a hard time staying soldered in the box. Plus the wiring inside is soldered together pretty shitty. My 7 year-old nephew could have done a better job. All-in-all, if you are considering buying this system, the next time you take a dump wipe your ass with $1400. Then get some more money and go buy a real video system.

Ick

OK, this is just gross. I tried to offer as much advice as I could in the area, and I hope I sufficiently answered their questions.

My thoughts on the matter was to go with the Impres batteries and chargers. Simply for the fact that in the long run it would save their department time and money since the bank chargers automatically recondition the batteries after 90 charging cycles. Granted, the Impres batteries cost almost twice as much, and they'll have to replace their current chargers with the Impress chargers (which are pretty comparable in price). But they don't have to contract with a radio service for reconditioning their batteries, nor do they need to have a substantial amount of spare batteries on hand to accomodate the loss of the batteries during the reconditioning process.

The differences between our departments is this: the majority of our portables are HT1000's (about 225) with about 70 more being the new PR1500. They're using the HT1550-XLS.

I have about 30 of the PR1500's outfitted with the Impres batteries since they are assigned to bank chargers here at HQ. The rest are take-home units or assigned to officers in seperate offices, thus the need still for the NiCd batteries since they're using the single-unit chargers. I've had no problems with the Impres batteries so far, plus I like the fact that I don't have to constantly keep up with the reconditioning of at least those units.

Has anybody ever had any experience with the HT1550-XLS aftermarket batteries? I've heard some don't fit the radio properly, like the contacts don't even line up right. All I've had experience with is those for the HT1000. Interstate's RAD1830 is good, but doesn't fit our radio holders. Alexander's H7143 is a great battery, with a long life and a perfect fit.

Well, at least I got an "Attaboy" for puttin' my $.02 in, and maybe it was some good PR for the department (I hope).

My Little Blue Eyes

I love my boy. As of his 2 month check-up, the little chunky monkey is now 23 inches and a whopping 13-1/2 lbs. That was 2 weeks ago, and he hasn't slowed down on his eating either. But that's a good thing. The place where I work, and the people for whom I work are great. I do have times when I get frustrated with some of the stupid stuff that goes on, like people destroying the portable radios or vehicles and management not holding people accountable for their actions, or people not adhering to plainly spelled out directives concerning the radios. Likewise, sometimes I get pretty overwhelmed by the amount of responsibility that has been heaped upon me. In my previous jobs I was a worker bee..."go here, do this." It didn't take a whole lot of thought or planning, I just had to make sure I accounted for my time and did the job right within a certain amount of time. Here is a whole different story. Here I have to get quotes from different vendors, write parts requisitions, plan installations of vehicular and fixed equipment, strip equipment out of the old vehicles, install equipment in the new vehicles, maintain a fleet of 20 current vehicles which they want to expand that to 30, maintain approximately 230 portable units on which I do PM's (preventative maintenance) twice daily, recondition batteries constantly, I take care of the programming of all the portable and mobile radios and the fixed base stations, repair the broken portables, send mobile radios out for depot level repair when needed, maintain the fixed equipment (3 repeaters, 3 base stations and 8 satellite receivers), maintain the dispatch consoles, maintain a backup dispatch office, attend numerous meetings for everything from daily update meetings to radio system improvements to new buildings that will house more fixed radio equipment, oversee any contractor work regarding fixed equipment in any building, issuing radio equipment to the officers and maintaining an accurate database, attend vendor demonstrations of new products (which can be quite cool sometimes), keep up-to-date on and inform upper management of the new technologies coming out and write up my own budget every year. Not to mention I'm in the middle of reorganizing the room where we store all the portables and reorganizing my own shop as well, which now looks like a disaster area. Did I mention I'm on-call 24/7 since I'm the only one who does my job? Oh yeah, and I'm part of a "ride-out" team when natural disasters like hurricanes strike.

The pay isn't bad...it's a damn sight better than the last company I worked for. I'm still not making as much as I did working for the City of Houston, but the raises here are more consistent and the benefits here are better than either of the last two places. I'll delve into that more in a later post. I'm under alot less stress than I was at my other job, believe it or not. Thankfully my management sees that I'm constantly busting my ass to get things done, so they don't pressure me too much. My predecessor was there for 28 years before she retired, and many of the people there have been there for anywhere from 5 to 15 years. We only have one problem child, and that one should be retiring in the next couple of years, so we don't pay too much attention to their bullshit. Everybody else has little gripes and complaints, it's just par for the course.

They recently did some schedule changes. It actually worked out better for everyone in the long run. Now at least we don't have to work a bunch of people on the holidays (the change before this one, which no one liked). We used to be off for every state- and federal-sanctioned holiday, but someone decided we had to be there even on the holidays so they changed the schedule to where we had to work 3 holidays out of the whole year. Terrible, right? The way I see it, such is life when you work in public safety. Others didn't see it that way. You can't please everybody all the time, though.

All-in-all I can say I'm pretty satisfied with where I work. I'm glad I took the job here, and I'm glad to be back in Houston again.

Happy Birthday, Mom

Today's my Mom's birthday. To network with people in my chosen profession to get some ideas on how to improve my workplace. To let my family and friends know what's going on. To have an outlet for my rants when I feel the need to rant. To make people laugh, and to make people think about what's going on in the world around them. I'll discuss anything with anybody, whether on the net or face-to-face. I'm pretty candid with my opinions, sometimes to the point of brutality. That being said, feel free to read and leave comments. However, if you troll I will smack you. If you spam, I'll delete your comments and ban you. I don't put up with bullshit from anybody that a) doesn't sign my paycheck or b) I'm not married to.

Enjoy!!
